PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OF POSITION

Primarily responsible for transporting program participants and other Individuals receiving CRN Transportation services to and from their home to Life Skills Programs/ Work locations or other authorized locations.  Additional responsibilities include assisting with training new drivers to the team, support with system utilization, and maintaining CRN standards of service to all Individuals.   

ROLE OF THE LEAD DRIVER

Drivers are responsible for transporting program participants daily and ensuring each individual’s safety. The driver must work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
The lead driver will work with the driver team to ensure communication, safety and compliance with CRN standards of service, as well as driver training, compliance and documentation as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Transportation and Customer Service
 

  • Communicate any changes in routes, times etc. to the families, group homes, program managers or other stakeholders
  • Assist drivers with initial training to meet the standard of CRN; door to door service, hands on support for riders needing assistance, maintain safety at all times.
  • Assist riders on and off the vehicle.
  • Confirm the arrival of each rider to their home or program, ensuring they have entered safely.
    • Verify number of riders picked up at the start of each route
    • Verify all riders are dropped off and check bus at end of each route ensuring that no riders are left aboard  
  • Verify that each rider’s seat belt is securely fastened prior to proceeding.
  • Ensure all vehicle doors are closed prior to moving vehicle out of the “Park” position.
  • Operate CRN vehicles in compliance with all traffic regulations, ordinances, speed limit and laws in the jurisdiction in which they are being operated. Including no cell phone usage unless using a hands-free device.  Even hands-free device usage should be limited to as necessary to care for individuals on the route or answer a family member or office call regarding your route
  • Ensure the health and safety of all riders.
  • Park vehicles in safe, well-lit areas when not in use.
  • Utilize our fleet management and monitoring system and ensure that the tracking device is always plugged in and operational.
  • Only utilize CRN vans for the purpose of providing transportation needs to individuals on behalf of CRN.
  • No guests or non-CRN affiliated people are allowed on our buses

2. Vehicle Maintenance
 
  • Train drivers and inspect vehicles to ensure CRN standards in terms of cleanliness, presentation, and appearance
  • Spot cleans the interior of the vehicle daily, disposing of trash, debris, and excessive dirt.
  • Deep clean vehicle weekly; vacuum, wash windows, wipe down seats and seat belts, and other cleaning as needed.
  • Inspect the exterior of the vehicle daily at the start of every shift.
  • Inspect the interior of the vehicle daily at the start of every shift.
  • Report any vehicle alarms or engine lights, noises, etc. to your supervisor/manager immediately.
  • Reinforce the rule of no smoking, eating or drinking in the van by individuals or drivers
  • Schedule regular maintenance of the vehicles to ensure safety
  • Work with drivers who report vehicle issues to remedy the issue in a timely manner
  • Trouble shoot issues driver’s encounter while on the roadways, suck as breakdowns, accidents or other circumstances
  • Arrange for a tow truck and alternate transportation options if incidents occur while riders are aboard the bus

3. Administration
  • Maintain a daily trip log for each passenger indicating the date for each trip. Update digitally in the attendance tracking system (Therap)
  • Train drivers on use of systems
  • Assist with route management to ensure efficiencies
  • Support onboarding of new riders, ensuring the driver has been trained on the care requirements of the new rider
  • Ensure all required paperwork has been received prior to starting services
  • Document and initial the starting and ending odometer reading in the Vehicle management software when prompted.
  • Submit transportation logs in to the attendance tracking system.
  • Audit attendance against expected riders to ensure billing accuracy
  • Document any behavioral changes or incidents in Therap via the T-log or GER depending on the incident and notify supervisor/manager immediately.
  • Fill gas tank utilizing gas card provided.  Gas cards are to be used for CRN gas only unless otherwise specified.  Report any gas card issues immediately.

OTHER DUTIES
 
  • Other projects and activities assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
 
  • In collaboration with the Transportation manager, the Lead Driver may oversee drivers and assist with route management, maintenance, compliance, and documentation as requested.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
 
  • Primary activity of transport requires outdoor travel and potential exposure to unpleasant weather. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and possesses the normal range of body motion.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, position, and/or transfer up to 50 pounds.
  • Interact and communicate constantly with all individuals encountered. Must be able to exchange accurate and detailed information in all situations.
  • Maintain concentrated attention to safety, detail, and accuracy for sustained periods of time.
  • Required to see and hear all traffic lights, signs, and signals.


QUALIFICATIONS                             
 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Valid automobile insurance.
  • Must pass Level II Background screening and drug screening
  • Must meet company driving record guidelines (verified via MVR). No alcohol or drug related violations.
  • 1 year experience in a direct care role, ideally working with Individuals with disabilities
  • 1 year in a supervisory position
  • Proficient in Spanish and English speaking and writing

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS                            
 
  • Should have a basic understanding of general business and office terminology.
  • Proficient in computer utilization and familiarity with databases.
  • Basic Microsoft office skills are required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently and effectively in both English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to compose routine correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without supervision.
